This print pairs the actor Sawamura Gennosuke II (1802–1853) with Yanagibashi. The latter was an important entertainment district just northwest of the western end of the Ryōgoku Bridge. Besides being home to various teahouses and restaurants, it was also known for its boathouses where clients could board rental pleasure boats that took them upriver to the Yoshiwara brothel district.
