Japanese prints, bonsai, ikebana and beautiful kimonos will be on display. Be inspired by modern Japanese culture with Manga, Anime and Cosplay.
During a State Visit to the Netherlands in 2000, the Emperor and Empress of Japan visited Leiden and the SieboldHuis. The annual Japan market was organised to commemorate this visit and the route over the Rapenburg they took together with Queen Beatrix . Discover Japan in Leiden!

Opening Japan Market
At 12.00 hours Kris Schiermeier, Director of the Japan Museum SieboldHuis will open the Japan Market in the presence of Mr. Hiroshi Minami, the Ambassador of Japan in the Netherlands and the Mayor of the City of Leiden, Mr. Henri Lenferink. Taiko Drums will announce the opening ceremony.

Pay a visit to Japan Museum SieboldHuis – organiser of the Japan Market and view the permanent collection of our founder Philipp Franz von Siebold. And discover the 'Japanese Fables by the Miedema Brothers' in the temporary exhibition. Prints from the project Siebold's Dreams by artist duo Marta & Slava are also on display in the museum.
Market
A wide variety of Japanese (cultural) goods will be on sale at market stalls along the Rapenburg.
Demonstrations Japanese Martial Arts
Demonstrations of Japanese martial arts will be given throughout the day at the Museum for Antiquities (Museum van Oudheden) on the other side of the Rapenburg. In Hortus botanicus Leiden there will be Japanese archery demonstrations during the day.

Enjoy sensational performances by Yosakoi Raiden Festival Dance Group and Pure Percussion in front of Japan Museum SieboldHuis.
